Ambassadorial visit to EIB renews focus on SME challenges

ACP ambassadors visit the EIB Bank in Luxembourge, June 2012

Brussels, 1 July 2012/ ACP:  Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in ACP countries still face  major barriers in financing, despite their unmistakable role in building local economies, the ACP Committee of Ambassadors heard during the group’s annual visit to the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg last week.

Fisheries Mechanism gets boost with new action plan

Brussels, 1 July 2012/ ACP: The Third meeting of the ACP Ministers responsible for fisheries was held in Nadi (Fiji) on18 June 2012, addressing the theme of Partnerships for sustainable development of the fisheries sector in ACP countries.

The meeting provided an opportunity for ACP Ministers for fisheries to invigorate the ACP Ministerial Fisheries Mechanism by adopting a 5 year Strategic Plan of Action.

The meeting also adopted a set of Resolutions addressing key issues for ACP States in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.

South-south cooperation “a must” for universal access to energy

27 June 2012, Brussels/ ACP: Technology-transfer amongst developing countries is essential to bringing energy access to the poorest of the world, argued leading figures at a recent panel event co-organised by the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) at the Rio+20 conference in Brazil last week.

South-Sudan to accede to ACP-EU partnership

26 June 2012, Brussels/ ACP: The world’s newest nation - the Republic of South Sudan - is on its way to becoming the 80th member of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States, after its request to accede to the ACP-EU partnership was approved at the recent Joint Council of Ministers meeting in Vanuatu.

PRESS RELEASE: ACP, EU take joint stand on sustainable development at Rio +20

21 June, 2012: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States and the European Union have adopted a joint declaration reaffirming their shared commitment to the principles of the 1992 Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, while calling for an “ambitious and action oriented” outcome at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20), currently underway in Rio de Janeiro.

ACP Parliamentary Assembly urges EU partners against meeting with MNLA

Horsens, 28 May 2012/ ACP: Parliamentary members of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States have rebuffed the claim of Northern Mali independence by the MNLA, and called for European counterparts to avoid organising talks with the rebel group.

 

EU 2011 review shows growing importance of ACP markets

Brussels, 14 May 2012/ CTA Agritrade: The EC has published its review of agriculture in the EU for 2011. Tables annexed to the review highlight the growing importance of the ACP as a market for EU agricultural exports. While between 2007 and 2010 total EU agricultural exports grew by 22.2%, agricultural exports to the ACP group as a whole grew by 37.5%. Within the ACP group, exports to South Africa grew faster than the overall ACP average, increasing by 51% (exports to the ACP excluding South Africa grew by 35.3%).

Dean of ACP Ambassadors moves on to head ECOWAS

: Diplomatic delegations of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group based in Brussels bade farewell to their most senior peer, H.E Kadré Désiré Ouedraogo, who ended his term as Dean of the ACP Committee of Ambassadors to take up leadership at the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
