The CDE welcomes its new Director
Mr Mabousso Thiam, a 53-year-old Senegalese national, has been appointed Director of the Centre for the Development of Enterprise. Mr Thiam is married and the father of two children. He holds a master's degree in private law from the University of Dakar (Senegal) and a degree from the International Banking and Economics Institute (Cyprus). Mabousso Thiam has held different positions of responsibility throughout his intense career, which began in 1979 at Interpral Paris, a company specialised in international trade in fishery products. In 1980, he joined the Central Bank of West African States where, for eight years, he was first in charge of setting up a public relations service at the Secretariat General (1980-1983) and then was placed in charge of issues such as banking regulations and supervision, audits and inspection of commercial banks, and restructuring of the banking system. Defining himself as a man of practical experience, Mr Thiam is well acquainted with the ins and outs of the private sector. From 1988 to 1997, as General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Soca, a Senegalese producer of pasteurised milk and fruit juices, he coordinated a wide range of activities, including: follow-up of feasibility studies, negotiations with funding agencies, the construction and implementation of the complex, the recruitment of staff and development of management tools. From 1997, his career continued in the field of consulting as General Manager of A.C.E. (Assistance et Conseil aux Entreprises), where he carried out numerous assignments on behalf of multilateral and bilateral organisations (OECD/Club du Sahel, Strategic Reflection Group, WAEMU, ECOWAS, World Bank, WADB, USAID, Canada, France, etc.). Institutional and economic reforms and their impact on the private sector, assessment of support programmes, skills upgrading in companies, restructuring of employers' organisations, strategic management, etc. are some of the many issues on which he has worked. Before joining the CDE, Mabousso Thiam gained experience in the area of support to governments and funding agencies in a private sector project worth US$ 46 million implemented by the Government of Senegal in collaboration with the World Bank, for which he served as Director of the Management Unit. Mabousso Thiam took up his duties at the Centre for the Development of Enterprise on 3 March.
