June 11 2008

The 87th African, Caribbean and the Pacific Council of Ministers observed a minute silence in honour of victims of two separate air accidents in two ACP states on Tuesday.

President of the Council of Ministers and Minister in Charge of National Solidarity of Djibouti, Mr Mohamed Ahmed Aweleh, on behalf of the group expressed his deep sympathy to the families of the victims.

At least 28 people are known to have died when a passenger plane burst into flames after landing at Khartoum airport in Sudan.
Another 53 people are also missing following the accident in the Sudanese capital, although 123 people survived.
In Kenya, two government ministers died in a plane crash on Tuesday. A pilot and a security guard were also killed when the Cessna plane the ministers were traveling in crashed near the western town of Narok, Kenya.

“I wish to express our condolences to the families of the victims to the authorities of the brother countries of Sudan and Kenya,” Mr Aweleh told the 87th ACP Council of Ministers.
