Declaration of the ACP Group on the attack against Omdurman, Sudan, by the Justice and Equality Movement
The Committee of Ambassadors of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group), at its meeting on 15 May 2008, HAVING HEARD statements made by H.E. Mr. Najeib EL KHEIR EL WAHAB, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan and H.E. Mr. Maïtine DJOUMBE, Ambassador of the Republic of Chad, on the attacks perpetrated by the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on 10 May 2008, in the town of Omdurman, near to Khartoum; STRONGLY CONDEMNS the attack led by the Justice and Equality Movement against the Sudanese Government; DEPLORES the loss of human lives caused by this attack and expresses the ACP Group’s solidarity with the Government and people of Sudan; URGES Sudan and Chad to resume talks in the framework of the Peace Accord agreed in Dakar, Senegal, on 14 March 2008, and intra-ACP Political Dialogue so as to renew diplomatic relations, as soon as possible, and to contribute to the restoration of lasting peace between the two countries and guarantee stability and security in the Eastern and Central African regions of the ACP Group.
