Press release - The ACP Group expresses its sincere condolences to the people of Zambia at the passing of President Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa
It is with deep sadness that the ACP Group has learnt of the death of His Excellency Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa, President of the Republic of Zambia, which occurred in Paris on 19 August 2008, following a period of illness.
President Dr. Levy Patrick Mwanawasa was a man of calibre and conviction who instilled hope in his country and his people, in matters of governance and development - both essential issues of interest to the ACP Group in its partnership with the European Union.
He also contributed to his country’s development and attached particular importance to strengthening ties between the ACP States and those of the European Union.
The ACP Group wishes to pay tribute to his memory and to express its sincere condolences to, and solidarity with, the Government and people of Zambia, and his family.
