ANNOTATED AGENDA FOR THE 3RD SUMMIT OF ACP HEADS OF STATE AND GOVERNMENT DENARAU, NADI – FIJI ISLANDS - 18 AND 19 JULY 2002

 

1.       Adoption of draft agenda [ACP/28/003/02 Rev.2]

The draft agenda for the 3rd Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government, as prepared by the joint meeting of the ACP Council of Ministers and ACP Foreign Ministers, will be presented for approval to the  Heads of State and Government.

2.       Organization of work

The Secretary-General of the ACP Group will present the logistical aspects of the Summit to the Heads of State and Government.

3.       Presentation of the Report of the Council of Ministers [ACP/**/***/02]

The President of the Council of Ministers will submit to the 3rd Summit a report on the activities of the Council, which will focus on the following main issues:

·       Progress report on the state of implementation of the decisions and undertakings set out in the Libreville and Santo Domingo Declarations, including the revision of the organisational and institutional framework of the Group; and

·       ACP-EU relations.

The Heads of State and Government will have an exchange of views on, inter alia, the forthcoming ACP-EU trade negotiations and will provide the  appropriate guidance.

4.       Presentation of and exchange of views on thematic issues

The Chairman of the joint session of the ACP Council of Ministers and ACP Foreign Ministers will present the thematic issues to the Heads of State and Government.

The Heads of State and Government will also discuss and debate specific thematic issues such as investment, financing of sustainable development, the multilateral trading system and the international political situation with non-ACP Heads of State and Government, Heads of major international corporations, Heads of regional and international institutions and leaders of Civil Society.

5.       Consideration and adoption of the draft Declaration [ACP/**/**/02]

The Heads of State and Government will adopt a Declaration which will reflect the positions of the ACP Group as they emerge during the discussions.

6.       Any other business

The Heads of State and Government may wish to decide on the date and venue of the 4th Summit.

Under this item, Heads of State and Government may also raise any issue that is deemed relevant. In addition, a Head of State or Government will, on behalf of the Summit, thank the Fijian authorities for hosting the 3rd Summit.
