ACP PRESS STATEMENT 1

The Meeting of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Council of Ministers opens today in Accra, Ghana.

The Council of Ministers, chaired by Burkina Faso, will prepare the agenda for the Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government who would commence their two day meeting on Thursday.

ACP leaders are anticipated to discuss the rise in food prices, and its effect on development of ACP states, as well as energy crisis, especially electricity and the price of oil.

Climate change, which is a major concern for small island states, is expected to feature prominently, so as the status of play of the negotiations of the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs).

Today’s meeting will be followed by the joint meeting of the ACP Council of Ministers and Foreign Ministers, which will be chaired by Ghana.

ACP leaders have started arriving in Ghana for the Summit.
