PRESS RELEASE - 5th ACP Summit to be held in Khartoum (Sudan)

The 5th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP Group), scheduled to be held in Khartoum, Sudan on 7 and 8 December 2006, will focus on the theme “United for peace, solidarity and sustainable development”.

It will be preceded by the 84th Session of the ACP Council of Ministers from the 3rd to 4th December 2006, and a joint meeting of the Council of Ministers and the ACP Ministers of Foreign Affairs on the 5th and 6th December 2006.

The draft Agenda for the 5th Summit contains institutional, political, economic, social and cultural issues for discussion. Pertinent among them are the future of the ACP Group, and negotiations of Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs).


• The Summit of Heads of State and Government, the highest organ of the ACP Group, defines the major orientations of the Group. It has been held regularly since 1997 to enable the Heads of State and Government of the ACP member countries to outline the main guidelines of the overall policy of the ACP Group and to give the Council of Ministers the necessary directives for their implementation.
