Meeting of the ACP Secretary-General, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas and former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr Leonel Fernández, now an “ACP Eminent Person”

In the margins of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (Santo-Domingo)
ACP Secretary-General, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, was received on 15 February 2013 by former President of the Dominican Republic, Dr Leonel Fernández Reyna, who confirmed his agreement to be one of the “Eminent Persons” called upon to analyse strategies and prospects for the future of the ACP Group.
This project for the development of the ACP Group within a new global structure was officially launched by its Heads of State and Government at their last Summit held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea last December.
The meeting between Drs. Chambas and Fernandez took place in the margins of the Caribbean Regional Meeting of the ACP-European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly. The main agenda items for the meeting were : the Cariforum-EU EPA (Economic Partnership Agreement) and, more directly related to the Caribbean region itself: regional integration, natural disaster risk prevention, the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), trade in services, renewable energy initiatives and progress in rebuilding Haiti since the earthquake of 2010.
