NEWS: Jamaica to seek ACP-EU funding for agro-training programme

Kingston, 27 July 2012/ JIS/ ACP: Jamaica’s Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries and Education are collaborating to enhance the application of agricultural science in education curricula, including submitting a joint project proposal for ACP-EU funding that would boost training in agricultural technologies and certify graduates in agricultural engineering for subsequent employment in the sector.

Regional ACP-EU parliamentary meeting concluded successfully in Samoa

Brussels, 23 July 2012/ ACP: Members of Parliament from the Pacific region and visiting counterparts from the European Parliament wrapped up three days of deliberations in Apia, Samoa last week, concluding the 8th Regional Joint Parliamentary Assembly between the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU).

 

High hopes at ACP for new AU Commission chief

Brussels, 22 July 2012/ EU Press Release / ACP: The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, accompanied by European Commissioner for Development, Andris Piebalgs, visited Tanzania over the weekend. He met with the President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete and senior ministers of the government. The visit contributes to reinforce the high-level political dialogue and economic cooperation with Tanzania.

NEWS: EU sugar aid for Swaziland bittersweet

20 July 2012/ The Guardian: Under the aid for trade initiative that came out of the World Trade Organisation in 2005, rich countries agreed to provide money for developing countries to help them adapt to global trade, moving away from the more brutal approach to trade liberalisation of tearing down trade barriers.
